Before starting the service we can do for development of telecom industry of Nepal, here is a brief of telecom operators in Nepal.
Nepal, a county with beautiful mountains on the north and plain region on the west, is land lock between India and china. Around 60% countries’ of geography is hilly and mountainous terrains with very less road access. Country is divided into five regions, namely Eastern Development region (EDR), Central Development region (CDR), Western Development region (WDR), Mid-western Development region (MWDR) and Far-western Development region (FWDR). The capital city Kathmandu lies on CDR. Wireless and mobile communication introduced by Nepal telecom in 2000. In span of one decade, many wireless operators have come. Now NCELL is taking number one position followed by Nepal Telecom, Smarttel, UTL, HelloMobile and CG Telecom. Among these operators NCELL and Nepal Telecom are giant players of in telecom field taking more than 95% of total subscribers.
Ncell (Spice Nepal Pvt. Ltd.)
Spice Nepal Pvt. Ltd. is foreign investment company with more that 80% share owned by Telersonera group. From last five year, Ncell is expanding its 2G and 3G network vigorously making them into number spot. Till now they have covered more that 65% geography and more that 85% population of the country. They have more that 10million active subscriber served by 3000 dual band BTSs.
Operator is expanding their network. Ncell is increasing their profit share year by year as network is expanding. Ncell mainly concern on best technical solutions rather than cheap equipments.
Smarttel
UTL is cdma based operator owned by group of Indian company. Recently it has got GSM license as well. It is on planning phase for country-wise network expansion. Currently, it is using microwave and lease line from NT for transmission.
Hello Mobile
Hello mobile has whole Nepal license two year back but due to funding problem it has stop its expansion but now news has come out that in next 3 year it is investing $60million.
Similarly CG Telecom is also planning to expand network county-wise.
